Nest: Type for the Birds

A speculative installation and accompanying book created for Experimental Typography at OCAD. The letters, which spell out a stanza from a  Don McKay poem, were made from assorted natural items collected from parks around the city, all of which can be found in bird nests. In theory, the materials are meant to be gradually picked off the metal letters by nest-building city birds, revealing the skeleton of the copper type.

The book and display box of final letter maquettes was designed to match the aesthetic of the experimental installation and bound using a variation on Japanese stab/stitch binding.
