These three birds – a Northern Mockingbird, a Common Nighthawk, and a Black-Crowned Night Heron, are life-size embroidered sketches of unexpected birds I sighted in Toronto during the summer of 2015. They were in the window of Action Potential Lab from September 11th-October 6th, 2015.

The Mockingbird was spotted singing its assorted songs atop a telephone pole near Eglinton and Oakwood, the Heron was seen in Wychwood Pond, and the fluttering shadows (and loud skreeks!) of the Nighthawks have been seen/heard in many parts of the city.

The birds are made from various fabrics, embroidery thread, copper wire, and paper (amongst other things), and the patterns were drafted and sewn by me.
